Punakha, Bhutan – 26 December 2024 – The Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA) announces the enactment of ‘GMC Law No. 1 of 2024’, or the Application of Laws Act 2024, marking a major step in establishing Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) as a global hub for mindfulness, sustainability, and innovation.
This landmark legislation, enacted with the assent of His Majesty the King of Bhutan, provides the governance framework for the Special Administrative Region (GMC SAR), reinforcing its autonomy and capacity to drive economic development.
Following the granting of the GMC Royal Charter on 10 February 2024, the new law integrates Singapore’s common law and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) regulations to govern company incorporation, employment, taxation, and financial services in GMC. This framework ensures efficient legal processes for businesses and individuals seeking to operate in the region. By leveraging Bhutan’s green energy and cultural values, GMC aims to create a sustainable, innovative environment for economic growth and holistic development.
